This table has several different influences. The floral-shaped top is inspired by Moorish symbols, and its segments have their roots in ancient mosaics. There is also a nod to the “flower power” paintings of Andy Warhol

The intention was to create a table that functions as an art piece. It’s “star” presence requires minimal accessories. This provides simpler, more flexible usage in could be the star of the room. – an art piece. In today’s world where rooms have to be  multi-task: day-to-day life, cocktail parties and family gatherings, and events like sports and awards show.

I am always searching for the perfect round cocktail table. The round form is:

  • more conducive to intimacy in a seating group.
  • the lack of corners and edges makes it convenient to pull up an extra seat
  • easier  to live with, especially if there are children around – no rubber child-proof corners required.

This table, 44″ in diameter, is a good scale with today’s larger sofas and sectional seating. And the 18″ height is the perfect height, not too high and not too low.

The materials are luxurious – French brass and Agaria marble. As a surface, the marble is indestructible. No coasters are needed.

Master(s) of the House

Carl J. Dellatore’s new book, Interior Design Master Class, published by Rizzoli Books, has become the number one design book in the country after only 3 weeks in print. I am honored to be one of the top 100 American designers chosen to be in the book. This month, Design, the newly redesigned magazine of ASID NY,  singled out my essay in their “good reads” section.INTERIOR DESIGN MASTER CLASS, RIZZOLI BOOKS, Architecture, New York, ASIDPoised to become the essential book on design, Interior Design Master Class collects the expertise and knowledge of the best interior designers working today. Opening Interior Design Master Class is like sitting down to the best dinner party you’ve ever attended. A classic in the making, America s top designers range from established design legends to members of the new guard that explore in detail the process of designing a home, from the fundamentals to the finishing touches. INTERIOR DESIGN MASTER CLASS, RIZZOLI BOOKS, Architecture, New York, ASID

Grouped by theme, the subjects range from practical considerations (Bunny Williams on “Comfort,” Etienne Coffinier and Ed Ku on “Floor Plans”) and details (Victoria Hagan on “Light,” Rose Tarlow on “Books”) to inspiration (Glenn Gissler, “Alchemy”(click here for a great interview with Carl), Jeffrey Bilhuber on “America” and Charlotte Moss on “Couture”) and style (Kelly Wearstler on “Glamour,” Alexa Hampton on “Tradition”).

Each piece is paired with images of the designer’s work to illustrate the principles being discussed, annotated with informative captions. Unique in the quality of its contributors, this is a book that readers will refer to again and again for advice and inspiration, an invaluable resource for practical tips and thought-provoking design.  INTERIOR DESIGN MASTER CLASS, RIZZOLI BOOKS, Architecture, New York, ASID
