The current “Art Issue” of New York Spaces features my Norma Cocktail from Vanguard Furniture.

This table has several different influences. The floral-shaped top is inspired by Moorish symbols, and its segments have their roots in ancient mosaics. There is also a nod to the “flower power” paintings of Andy Warhol
The intention was to create a table that functions as an art piece. It’s “star” presence requires minimal accessories. This provides simpler, more flexible usage in could be the star of the room. – an art piece. In today’s world where rooms have to be multi-task: day-to-day life, cocktail parties and family gatherings, and events like sports and awards show.

I am always searching for the perfect round cocktail table. The round form is:
- more conducive to intimacy in a seating group.
- the lack of corners and edges makes it convenient to pull up an extra seat
- easier to live with, especially if there are children around – no rubber child-proof corners required.
This table, 44″ in diameter, is a good scale with today’s larger sofas and sectional seating. And the 18″ height is the perfect height, not too high and not too low.
The materials are luxurious – French brass and Agaria marble. As a surface, the marble is indestructible. No coasters are needed.
