The new Barry Goralnick Spencer table for Vanguard Furniture is featured in New York Cottages & Gardens’ October 2106 issue.
The Spencer was nominated for the prestigious IDA award (Innovation in Design) for 2016. It is named after Spencer Tracy (all the pieces in our Vanguard collection are named after movie stars).
All our clients prefer a cocktail table with a lower shelf because of its useful storage and display. Our table meets that need with vertical storage instead of flat. It is the embodiment of the concept in the popular book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up – The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, which recommends things be stored vertically.
Round tables are gracious for entertaining, no corners make better friends. And you won’t need those baby bumpers that square tables necessitate.
The 48″ diameter Spencer Table is the perfect size to complement larger sofas and sectionals. All the interest occurs under the glass so you only need minimal, if any, objects on the top. You’re not always moving things around to set up to entertain. It makes dusting easy.
There are two unexpected inspirations for this table. A vintage holder of nuts and bolts from an old hardware shop served as an inspiration (pictured below). The idea of this form transformed into the concept of a table. The finishing touch is the hardware screw-head detail on the top of the “fins”, which evokes the popular Cartier Love Bracelet. This is the kind of elegant jewelry detail that ties this table into the rest of the collection.
The Spencer is available in every Vanguard wood finish and any Benjamin Moore paint color. The metal accents are satin brass as pictured.
